Mighty Companions Presents
THE HERRINGBONE PROJECT: Laboratory for Co-Creation
Convened by Suzanne Taylor
I had the good fortune of building a friendship with Willis Harman during five days when we were both in Tucson at the 1994 conference, "Toward a Scientific Basis for Consciousness," where he was the wrap-up speaker assigned to make sense of it all. Over dinners and during walks in the woods, Willis agreed he would help me form a Los Angeles group for intelligent thought. He felt things were going to get worse in the world before they got better, and it was his belief, as it is mine, that groups such as this could set new patterns of ideation that would help humanity navigate through the hard times ahead.
A mainstay of our group was Lex Hixon, and a topic that made for impassioned exchanges between Willis and Lex was the need for humanity to understand that it draws an artificial line between life and death in the great seamless fabric of all there is. Although they both were undiagnosed then, these two explorers, who were unafraid of what we think of as the great divide, both crossed it soon after. It is heartening that, when put to the supreme test, Willis and Lex both were courageously willing to make the transition and enter the new adventure.
I thank Willis for his empowering faith in me. He is immortalized in me now, as he is in many he so generously supported. I pray that an army of us may carry on what this very great individual set in motion.
What follows is an effort to hone many hours of personal engagement into one thought-provoking document.
PROJECT STATEMENT
There is nothing that matches well-developed clear minds getting together. These times cry out for extraordinary new understanding. We live inside a giant idea, which must be born anew periodically for civilization to progress. This is one of those times.
The mandate of our day is for union. Rugged individualism must give way to shared leadership. The individual must be part of a group life. Convinced of a need for forces comprised of our best and our brightest to set a new pattern, Mighty Companions is now being joined in this by a mighty ally, Dr. Willis Harman, president of the Institute of Noetic Sciences and of the World Business Academy. At his instigation, we are inviting the initiation of a force in Los Angeles that could help during the rough economic times likely to be ahead. We will think together about unleashing what we could not do in isolated efforts, while we look at the possibility of modeling an alignment in consciousness that itself could send ripples of a next phase of relationship, community and oneness through humanity.
We think an alliance could be effective at this time because of the availability of people who cannot conceive of personal gain apart from the greater good, who can presence themselves, unarmored, with others conscious of emergence from the essential sameness that underlies us all.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful,
committed citizens can change the world.
Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
-Margaret Mead-
